I'm in the process of building a mid-range PC with a focus on long-term use and upgrade potential. So far, I've chosen an RTX 5060TI with 16GB and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. However, I'm stuck on which CPU to pick. I initially found an i5-13400F at a good price but then came across the cheaper 14400F. My cousin suggested the i5-12600KF, which performs better than the 14400F according to my research, but it costs a bit more, is two generations older, and I'm not planning to overclock. I want a solid base for future upgrades instead of redoing my entire setup later. Can anyone help me decide?

Honestly, neither of those Intel CPUs are ideal for long-term use. Even entry-level AM5 CPUs are faster and offer better longevity for the price. If you're planning to stick with Intel, look for something like a six-core K-variant if you have to go with LGA1700.
The 14400F is perfectly fine for gaming and productivity in a low-mid range build. It doesn't have the issues some other Intel CPUs had in the past. Just make sure you pair it with a solid motherboard that’s already updated for your CPU, so you don’t have to deal with BIOS updates later. But honestly, if you can swing it, an AM5 setup would be better for future upgrades and has better RAM support too.
Exactly! If you want to future-proof your build, I’d recommend going for a Ryzen 5 7600 or similar on AM5. The performance is worth the extra cost in the long run.
