I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Fold, and my brother claims that the built-in antivirus protections on modern phones are sufficient. Is he correct, or should I consider installing something like AVG Antivirus?

I've had smartphones since 2009 and never felt the need for antivirus software—I've never encountered a virus either!
Many modern phones are pretty secure without antivirus because of how apps are sandboxed, making it tough for malicious software to spread. Android has Google Play Protect and iOS has strict vetting for apps. Keep your phone updated, and you should be fine!
Just skip the antivirus! I've been using smartphones since 2007 and have never needed any antivirus or optimization software; it's mostly unnecessary junk.
If you're using your device as intended, I doubt anyone really needs extra protection beyond what's built-in, whether on iPhone or Android. I'm all about keeping it simple!
Both my spouse and I worked at Samsung for over 7 years, and honestly, we never saw a legitimate need for third-party antivirus. In fact, those apps can sometimes slow your phone down!

That might be true, but how can you be sure?
