Hey everyone, I'm looking for some help with my gaming PC setup. I recently built my first PC (completed in August 2024) and currently have an i5 12400 processor, 16GB of 3200MHz RAM, and a 7800 XT Nitro+ graphics card which I just got two weeks ago. However, I've been experiencing crashes while playing games like Far Cry 4 on ultra settings and CS2. The screen sometimes hangs, and I lose display entirely. To fix this, I have to restart my PC and re-enable the AMD driver in Device Manager after it gets disabled during the crash. I'm playing at 1440p with a 165Hz monitor, and I suspect my CPU might be the bottleneck. I want to upgrade my setup since my motherboard only supports DDR4 and I'm keen on going with AMD for better GPU utilization. I'm considering the Ryzen 7 7600X, a DDR5 motherboard (like B650), and 32GB of 6000MHz RAM. Does this sound like a good plan for my 7800 XT? Also, is it a smart move to stick with AMD for my current GPU?

I can't speak specifically to your crash issues, but regarding the upgrade, I think going with an AM5 motherboard is a great idea if you're planning to stick with AMD. You could get a B650 board for a reasonable price and it would be more future-proof. For the CPU, the Ryzen 5 7600X is a solid choice, and it should pair nicely with your 7800 XT. Just make sure to check local pricing since AMD options can vary widely.
Sometimes, it's just the drivers causing the issue. I would recommend doing a clean driver installation using DDU and possibly try out an older version of the drivers if the new ones continue to give you trouble. As for the Ryzen CPUs, either the 7600 or 7700 would benefit you depending on your budget.
Great advice! I'll definitely consider trying older drivers. What do you suggest for Ryzen CPUs in terms of performance-to-cost?
Have you tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely remove your graphics drivers and then reinstall them? It might help with those crashes you're experiencing. Even though it's your first build, using DDU can clear out any old or conflicting driver remnants that might be causing problems. It's worth a shot!
I haven't used DDU yet, but I'll try it. I thought simply reinstalling the drivers would be enough, but maybe there's a conflict from before.
Thanks for the input! I'm really trying to sort this all out since I have no clue what's causing these crashes. My temps are under 80°C and everything else seems fine.
