Hey everyone! I'm trying to decide between the Ryzen 7 7700 OEM and the Ryzen 5 9600X boxed version, both priced at $250 after tax. My main use will be 80% gaming and 20% web development. I'm planning to pair either CPU with an RTX 5070 Ti, and I already have a Thermalright Phantom Spirit cooler. Should I go for the extra cores of the 7700 or the single-core performance and newer manufacturing of the 9600X? Any recommendations or personal experiences, especially regarding buying OEM CPUs? The store offers a 36-month warranty, which is encouraging. Thanks!

I'd go with the 7700 for sure, especially at the same price. Benchmarks on YouTube show that it occasionally outperforms the 9600X in games optimized for multi-threading. Plus, having those extra two cores is always a bonus!
It really depends on what you do with your PC. If you do a lot of compiling and resource-heavy work, the 7700 should give you more efficiency. It's similar to the trade-off you see in Intel CPUs with IPC vs. multi-threading, but since you're already leaning towards AMD, the 7700 is a solid choice!
For sure, you should take the 7700 due to the extra cores, especially if you're gaming. More cores often translate to better performance in modern games, and it could really help with your web development tasks too!
Not much experience with building, but here's a helpful link comparing the two CPUs: [AMD Ryzen 7 7700 vs AMD Ryzen 5 9600X](https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-amd_ryzen_7_7700-vs-amd_ryzen_5_9600x). I think it might clarify some of the differences for you!
Thanks for the link! It looks pretty useful, I appreciate it!
