Is my power supply enough for a mid-range graphics card upgrade?

I'm considering upgrading my older computer since graphics cards and memory are becoming more affordable. Right now, I have an Intel 9900k paired with a 2080 ti, but it's starting to feel outdated. I'm thinking about getting either a 5070 ti or a 5080, along with a 4TB NVMe drive. My power supply is 750 watts and was purchased in 2019. I've heard mixed things about power supplies, including them potentially failing or causing damage, so I'm wondering if I need to get a new one for the upgrade. Also, would the same advice apply if I were to consider a 9070 xt? My goal is to find something that will last 5-9 years, as I'm also into 3D sculpting. Any advice would be appreciated!

Definitely check your PSU's model number! If it's a reputable brand with good reviews and a long warranty—like a solid 7-10 years—then it should be fine for a 5070 ti or 9070 xt upgrade. But yeah, I'd be cautious with the 5080; it could be stretching your PSU's limits a bit. Just make sure it’s not one of those cheap brands that could cause trouble. You’ve got this!

Thanks for the advice! My PSU is an EVGA 750 platinum, which has a 10-year warranty, so that sounds promising!

First off, what resolution are you gaming at? That can impact how much power you really need. If you're at 1440p, like you mentioned, your setup should handle it pretty well. Just make sure to check the model of your power supply. If it’s a decent quality PSU with a longer warranty, it should handle a 5070 ti or 9070 xt without any issues. But if it's a lower quality unit, you might want to think about upgrading it, especially if you're going for something like the 5080 which could push your PSU.

Good luck with your upgrade!

Right, I currently play at 1440, so that should be fine. My PSU actually has a long warranty, so that’s good to know. Thanks!
