Hey everyone,
I recently switched my internet provider and got a new modem to go along with it. I installed the new modem in the same spot as the old one and connected it to my home LAN network. Most of my devices are working perfectly, but my desktop PC is having trouble connecting.
Here are some things I've tried:
1. The Ethernet adapter doesn't recognize any connection when I plug in the cable, even though that same cable works fine with my laptop.
2. I've tested another cable and a different port on the switch, but nothing changed.
3. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Ethernet adapter driver, rebooting the PC in between.
4. I checked the BIOS and confirmed the Ethernet adapter is enabled. I also reset the modem, but the issue persists.
5. ChatGPT suggested it could be a hardware malfunction of the Ethernet adapter, but it seems unlikely that it broke right as I changed modems. Why is it only affecting the PC?
Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can take to get my Ethernet adapter to work again? I'm feeling pretty stuck... Thanks!

It’s good you checked the BIOS, but you could also try resetting your network settings on the PC. Sometimes that helps, especially after changes in hardware.
When you say the Ethernet adapter isn't seeing any connection, make sure it's fully plugged in, and maybe try the port on a different device just to rule out a hardware fault.
A solid option to determine if there's an issue with the Ethernet port is to try an external USB network adapter. They’re really affordable, and even a basic one should do the trick!
Have you tested the USB-C adapter with your laptop? I know you’ve checked the cable, but sometimes the adapter can be finicky too.

That's actually what I'm using now! I connected through an Ethernet to USB-C adapter.
