I'm planning to build a PC in January primarily for gaming at 1440p and 3D work. I know some components might be overkill for gaming alone, but I need the extra power for various 3D applications and rendering. I've already purchased some RAM due to rising prices and might buy the SSD soon if I see a spike in cost. Here's the list of parts I'm looking at:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 4.3 GHz 16-Core Processor
- CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 G2 91.58 CFM
- Motherboard: Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO ATX AM5
- Memory: Crucial Pro Overclocking 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL40 (already purchased)
- Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB NVME SSD
- Video Card: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB
- Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x SHIFT 1000 W 80+ Gold
- Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL ATX Full Tower
- Case fans: Noctua NF-A14 PWM fans (planning to buy 7)
I'm also budgeting separately for a monitor and Windows 11. The total for the PC parts comes to approximately £3203.62 ($4,190.17), which doesn't include the monitor or OS. My overall budget for the PC build is about £3500 ($4,577.83) but could stretch to £3700-3800 ($4,839.42-$4,970.21) if needed. What are your thoughts on my build? Should I make any changes, or is this a solid setup for my needs?

This build seems more than capable for your needs! The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is a powerhouse for both gaming and heavy 3D workloads. You’re right about the RAM prices too; snagging that early was a smart move. The choice of the RTX 5080 over the 5070 TI also makes sense given the price difference is minimal for that extra performance. Overall, you're setting yourself up for a great rig!
Looks great! Just be aware of the power requirements; make sure your PSU can handle everything under full load. But overall, it’s a solid build for both gaming at 1440p and your 3D applications.
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll double-check the power draw and ensure I’m good to go.

Yeah, I agree! Plus, that cooler will keep your system nice and quiet while handling the heat. Perfect for 3D work.
