How Can I Reignite My Passion for Programming After Burnout?

I've been working as a programmer for a small company for the last three years, focusing on a website for a major community college. I mostly handle C#, Blazor (especially SyncFusion), and HTML, and I've created over 40 page templates by myself. Unfortunately, I find myself really disliking web development, and the monotony of my job has drained my passion for coding. I want to rekindle that excitement I felt, especially when I first learned Python and was amazed by simple coding functions. Lately, I've been feeling too exhausted after work to pursue programming at home, and although I'm trying to learn through an online course, it feels more like a chore than a joyous experience. I'm looking for engaging and fun ways to learn programming, especially in C++, possibly through games or unique projects. Any suggestions to help me rediscover my love for coding?

Don't stress too much about what you build at first—just focus on what you're missing or intrigued by! Pick a language, and start chipping away at something small but exciting. Use tutorials just as a guide to get you through the process without getting stuck in a passive learning cycle.

I like how you broke that down. It's all about applying what you learn immediately to keep it interesting!

If you're feeling completely burnt out, consider taking some time off to recharge. It might give you the space you need to re-discover what you love about programming. Once you're ready, dive back into those projects or hobbies you once enjoyed. The passion will return; just give it time!

Great advice! Sometimes, a break can make a world of difference. I took one before and came back with fresh ideas!

I totally get where you're coming from! One great way to spark your interest again is to choose a project you're genuinely excited about—maybe even a game. Try using C++ and look for tutorials or guides that can help you along the way. A more hands-on approach is definitely more fun than just following lecture-style classes!

I like how you mentioned choosing a project! It’s like when I was in band; getting the instrument out was half the battle. Just starting something feels tough sometimes.

Totally agree! Projects keep it lively. Have you thought about using raylib for simple graphics? It can make game development feel a lot more engaging.

I feel you on the burnout! It's crucial to find something that excites you again. Maybe try a side project or look for a different job that aligns more with your interests. Getting back to what you love about coding can make a huge difference.

I've found that streaming my coding sessions on platforms like Twitch and TikTok is super motivating. It helps keep me focused and allows me to explore new things while connecting with others. You might learn a lot more when you're sharing your journey with an audience!

That's an awesome idea! I hadn’t thought about that angle. I would just need to build up a following to keep me accountable, haha!
