Looking for Advice on Upgrading My PC Setup

I'm considering upgrading my current PC build, especially my CPU. I've been using an Intel Core i7-8700K for a while, and while I recently upgraded my GPU to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, I think it's time for a CPU update as well. I'm unsure if I need to also change my motherboard in the process or whether it might be a good time to switch to an AMD setup. Here's my full current build for reference:

- **CPU:** Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
- **Cooler:** Corsair H100i PRO RGB Liquid CPU Cooler
- **Motherboard:** Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING ATX
- **Memory:** Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
- **Storage:** Western Digital Blue 1 TB SSD
- **Video Card:** NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB
- **Case:** Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case
- **Power Supply:** EVGA 750 GQ 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular

Any advice on the best route to take would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Just to add, if you go for the 9600X, it's definitely more about future-proofing your setup. It's a solid option if you're looking to get better longevity out of your build. Just keep in mind the cost of a new motherboard as well since you'll be switching platforms.

Yeah, if you're planning to upgrade the CPU, you will need to replace the motherboard too unless you want to keep your current Intel setup and go for a 9900K. But honestly, switching to something in the AMD lineup like a Ryzen 7500F or 9600X could be a better choice depending on your budget. They tend to offer good performance at competitive prices.
