I've been experiencing terrible lag and spikes in my gaming connection whenever there's someone else at home. This has been an ongoing issue for a while, and it's a real pain since I want to play with my friends. The only time I can game is when I'm home alone, which is tough in a family of five, or late at night when my friends aren't available. The lag seems to have worsened over the past year since my dad got a new PC that he uses right next to the router. I'm currently connected via ethernet, but my connection is still terrible. I'm not sure what to do because moving the router or my PC isn't an option. Any advice would be appreciated!

First off, check if your dad’s PC has a torrent client running. Sometimes, people leave those programs open without setting limits on the upload bandwidth, which can choke your connection and cause lag for everyone. It's a common issue! If you're not sure how to look for it, just ask your dad if he’s using any torrenting software.
If you're using WiFi, it's best to connect to the 5GHz band. But since you're on ethernet, check if your router has Quality of Service (QoS) settings. You can prioritize your connection there; this way, your gaming gets more bandwidth even if others are online. You'll need to find specifics for your router model online, though!
Does that QoS thing work with a wired connection too?

Sorry, I'm not super tech-savvy. How do I check if he has that running?
