What’s the best GPU I can upgrade to with a 750W power supply?

I'm looking to update my aging PC setup and am ready to retire my 1080 Ti. I plan to upgrade my power supply to 750W (maybe I could stretch to 800W if needed). The rest of my rig includes a Ryzen 9800X3D, some old hard drives, a single M.2 SSD, a few 2.5" SSDs, and about 5 fans plus the two fans on the CPU cooler. I realize that the high-end 50 series GPUs typically need a 1000W supply for optimal performance, so I know I have to avoid the high-tier xx80 cards. However, as long as I can find a GPU with equal or greater VRAM, I should benefit from improved performance thanks to newer generations. I'm a bit lost trying to find which top models from NVIDIA or AMD are safe options to consider. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

For good performance without breaking the bank, look into the 9070 XT or the 5070 Ti. They’re solid options and currently available at MSRP, so you might snag a good deal!

I can't say what the absolute best is, but I run a 3060 12GB with my 750W PSU, and it works just fine!

But, come on, the 3060 is rated for a 550W PSU. It’s not exactly comparable to the high-performance GPUs being discussed here.

I’d recommend going with the RX 9070, but the RTX 5080 could definitely also fit your needs. Both should work just fine with your setup!

You should have no problem running the 9070 XT or the 5080 on a decent 750W PSU. I’m actually using a 9800X3D with a 9070 XT myself, and it works like a charm. Definitely worth considering!

If you're looking at the latest options, the 5090 does draw up to 600W, but realistically, your 750W PSU should handle the 5090 and 9800X3D combo in most scenarios unless you're doing some extreme testing. But, just so you know, the 5090 is gonna cost around $2k, which is a bit of a shocker! If you're looking for something more budget-friendly, the 5070 Ti and the 9070 XT are great choices, especially since the 9070 XT is priced around $600 and performs well.
