Hey everyone! I've got a dilemma with upgrading my PC, and I'm hoping to get some solid advice. I'm in Brazil and with Black Friday deals happening, I'm considering buying a new CPU. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8400F
- CPU Cooler: MasterLiquid 120L Cooler Master
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 5200MHz 2x16 DDR5
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650m-H
- GPU: RTX 3060 12Gb
- PSU: Corsair 650W
I've been looking at the 9800X3D, but I've heard that I might need a better AIO cooler for it, even though I haven't seen any reliable sources backing that up. So, I'm really open to recommendations—should I go for a better GPU, stick with a different CPU, or both? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

While your current rig is decent, upgrading feels a bit off given its balanced setup. I suggest upgrading your GPU first if you want better game performance. Don’t get caught up in the hype around X3D chips—they can be overly pricey, and the 9700X is still a top-tier option without the compromise on productivity. Also, I've moved away from AIO coolers; good air coolers are cheaper, easier to install, and reliable.
If you're set on that new CPU, remember that you really should have solid cooling to match. Your current GPU should be fine for playing basic games but doesn't push any limits. As for cooling, it's generally better to avoid a single 120mm cooler if you can. Look for AIO options that fit your case and provide good airflow.
You might want to check out the 9700X instead. It might not be the ultimate gaming CPU, but it performs really well across the board. Your RTX 3060 should still hold up based on the games you play and your screen resolution. If you do decide to upgrade your GPU, just be prepared to potentially replace your PSU too.
