Should I choose the AMD 7800X3D or the 9900X for gaming and streaming?

I'm in the UK and it's time for my first real upgrade in years. I'm currently using an Intel i5-7500 with a standard 2060, but I'm finding that even low-end modern games are really pushing my CPU. With Black Friday sales on CPUs, there's only an £8 difference between the AMD 7800X3D at £292.99 and the 9900X at £301. I'm looking for something mainly for basic streaming and video editing, but I'm not focused on AI or anything too CPU-intensive besides games like RDR2, ER, and WUKONG. My budget is around £2k, and I'm planning to pair it with a B850 motherboard and a 5070. Just want to ensure I have enough future-proofing to last for another 5-7 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're all about gaming, the 7800X3D is the clear winner. It has more L3 cache, which can really boost performance across a variety of games—especially with the titles you're interested in. Even for your streaming and editing needs, the performance trade-off is worth it for better gaming.

That's what I was thinking too. I do some light editing, but gaming comes first for me.

I'd definitely recommend going with the 7800X3D. It's a powerhouse when it comes to gaming, and you’re likely to see better frame rates compared to the 9900X. Since gaming is your primary use case, it'll make a noticeable difference in your experience!

Totally agree! The extra frames are a game changer. You won't regret it.
