Hey everyone! I've got a quick question about replacing older iPads with AppleCare. I own a 2020 iPad Air that's starting to have battery issues. Usually, I just call AppleCare, explain that it's freezing up, and they send me a new or refurbished one, which avoids the battery replacement fee. However, this is the first time I'm considering replacing a 5-year-old device since the AppleCare subscription started a couple of years ago. Has anyone had the experience of receiving a newer model through Express replacement, or should I expect to just get another 2020 iPad Air?

You’ll typically get the same model as long as it’s still available. They won’t upgrade you to a newer device. But it’s worth checking if your model is still in stock first!
The production for the 2020 iPad Air ended on March 8, 2022, so Apple will stop making the parts for it about 5 to 7 years after that date. If you go for an express replacement through AppleCare+, you’ll likely just receive a refurbished version of your same iPad model, not a newer one.
