Can I Use My Husband’s iPod with My Apple ID Without Losing His Music?

I have a situation where my husband's iPod is full of music that he uploaded from his own CDs. I'd like to switch the iPod to my Apple ID so I can add my music as well. However, I'm worried about losing all the music that's currently on it. Is there a way to do this without having to re-upload all of his CDs?

If Apple allowed account switches like that, they couldn't keep promoting subscriptions like Apple Music! It might be a hassle, but keeping separate accounts could actually be simpler in the long run.

Unfortunately, you can't transfer purchased songs between different Apple IDs, so that's a big no. Even if you could move it over, it might not be the best idea between couples since sharing accounts can get complicated. As for that music on the iPod, since it’s all from CDs, you'd have to be careful because if you switch accounts, you risk losing access to that content.

True, it’s worth noting that if you check Apple’s support page, there are some steps for transferring libraries, but it's not really practical for a shared situation like yours.
