I'm seriously considering making the switch to Linux because I'm pretty fed up with Windows. I've got a bit of background in coding with Python, JavaScript, and C#, so I'm hoping that will help me get used to Linux more easily. The big question for me is about gaming, as it's my primary use for my PC. I enjoy indie games and VR as well. I've heard about ALVR as an alternative to Virtual Desktop. Can anyone share their experience with gaming on Linux? Is it smooth for VR and do most indie games, especially those from sites like itch.io or services like Steam and GOG, work well? Thanks for any insights before I try this out on my flash drive!

You don’t need to be a programming pro to use Linux, but having some coding knowledge does help! You can definitely try it out without fully committing. Just install Linux on your drive and keep your original OS intact for now.
I can't speak for VR myself, but I know the gaming experience on Linux is generally good. Just keep in mind that games with anti-cheat may not run, but everything else usually works pretty smoothly. Tools like ProtonDB can help you see how well your games run and any tweaks you might need to make.
When it comes to indie games, you're likely going to be just fine! For VR, it's improving but not totally perfect yet. Which Linux distribution do you plan on using? That can make a difference too!

Yeah, ProtonDB is super useful! Definitely check that out for compatibility specifics.
