I've found myself in a bit of a jam—I've stripped the screw on my CPU cooler and need to figure out how to safely get this thing off. Are there any tricks or tips I should be aware of before I dive in?

You might want to try using a rubber band over the stripped screw. Press down with a screwdriver to get some grip, but it really depends on how bad the screw is stripped.
That was actually my first thought too! I even bought some better rubber bands, but it didn’t work out for me.
