Kubernetes often feels like overkill for simpler setups, and many people still rely on Docker Compose with some automation. I'm curious if there's a tool similar to ArgoCD specifically for managing Docker containers. It might not have all the features of Kubernetes, but that could be ideal for what I need. Does anyone know if such a tool exists? And if it does, would you find it helpful?

You might want to check out Komodo! It's not something I've heard a lot about, but it could fit what you're looking for.

If you're just tinkering around, you could try k3s or k0s in a single-node setup without a CNI. This way, you maintain a k8s-like environment without going all-in on Kubernetes. Also, Docker Swarm and HashiCorp Nomad are alternatives that might suit your needs.

Portainer is another option! Just watched their demo, and it looks pretty similar to ArgoCD. Definitely worth a look!

I actually wrote a bash script to manage this for my homelab. Here's the link to my GitHub project: [dccd](https://github.com/loganmarchione/dccd). Might give you some ideas!

You can also look into dokploy or Coolify, especially if you're using GitHub, GitLab, or similar backends to manage your service.
