Is It Worth Upgrading to AM5 or Just to AM4 for My Gaming PC?

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming PC, which currently features an R5 3600 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 4060 GPU. I mainly enjoy playing RPGs and story-driven games like Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, God of War, and Shadow of Mordor/War, without a strong focus on achieving maximum FPS in graphics settings. I'm unsure whether it's worth it to make a complete switch to an AM5 setup or if I should consider upgrading to something like a Ryzen 7 5800X and doubling my RAM to 32GB. I've been thinking about the potential for a future upgrade to a 9060XT as well. What do you all recommend?

Honestly, the best bang for your buck right now is probably to upgrade to 32GB of DDR4 RAM and consider the 5800XT or maybe the 5700X/5600XT depending on the deals you find. If you're leaning towards the 9060XT, make that upgrade sooner rather than later!

I totally agree! I recently moved from a 3600 to a 5800XT and the difference was massive. I got it for about $180 when Amazon had a deal that BestBuy matched, and with a gift card it lowered my total to around $130.

I’d suggest sticking with AM4 for now. AM5 setups can get pretty expensive, especially with DDR5 RAM costs. Since you're fine with your current performance for the kinds of games you play, a simple upgrade to something like a Ryzen 5800X and boosting your RAM to 32GB could really enhance your experience without breaking the bank. Your RTX 4060 should still handle 1080p gaming just fine for now!
