I'm looking for a way to force Windows 11 to run at 60Hz across the entire system, not just for games. I have my reasons for this and would appreciate if you don't suggest alternatives. I've already tried several methods but haven't found a successful one. Here's what I've attempted so far:
- RivaTuner did not yield results.
- In Windows Display Settings, I only see options for 240Hz and 120Hz, no 60Hz available.
- The NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't allow me to change the desktop refresh rate.
- I tried using CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to create a custom 60Hz mode, but it caused my screen to go blank. Now I can only see the 240Hz and the non-working 60Hz.
Does anyone know how to reliably lock Windows itself at 60Hz? Thanks for your help!

What monitor and resolution are you using? If your monitor doesn't list a 60Hz option, it may be worth trying an older HDMI cable that might be limited to 60Hz. But again, it depends on your monitor's capabilities.
You can do this by right-clicking on your desktop, selecting "Display Settings," choosing your monitor, and then going to "Advanced Display". From there, if the option is available, select "60 Hz" under refresh rate. If it’s not listed, it likely means your monitor doesn’t support it.
Try setting your monitor's refresh rate directly to 60Hz instead of AUTO. This might help limit the sync frequency to what you want directly from the monitor settings.
Why not just get a 60Hz monitor? If you have an old one lying around, it might do the trick for you.
