I've got an i5-2400s CPU paired with a GTX 1070 GPU, and I'm worried about potential bottlenecks. I'm considering upgrading my CPU, but I'm unsure if I should just get a new motherboard as well. What CPU do you think would be the most compatible without causing a bottleneck?

You could also check out the i5 9400F or Ryzen 5 3600. If you're looking for something more future-proof, the Ryzen 7 7500F or 8400F will be worth it, but keep in mind you'll need a new motherboard too.
Honestly, a new motherboard along with RAM and a new CPU would be your best bet for a good upgrade.
If you're into overclocking, consider getting an i7-2700K. Some of the Sandy Bridge CPUs can be overclocked even if they aren't the 'K' versions. I've done it with an i5-2400 and got it to 3.8 GHz. Just make sure your motherboard supports overclocking!
You might want to look for an i7-3770. It should work well with your GTX 1070 and help minimize any bottleneck issues.
