Advice for Starting My First Game Project

I've been learning to code through a platform called Brilliant, and I'm eager to dive into game design. I thought a good first step would be creating a ROM hack or a fan game, but I'm feeling a bit lost on where to begin. I have Notepad for coding, but I'm unsure how to incorporate elements like images or sound into my project. How do I turn all this into a playable game? Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I feel you! Don't feel dumb about it, we all start somewhere. If you're looking for step-by-step instructions on building your game, using a user-friendly engine like Unreal Engine might help. Just dedicate an hour to learning one small part at a time, and check out some YouTube tutorials—they're super helpful!

Yeah, definitely take it slow! There's a lot to learn. Maybe start with simpler projects before jumping into the deep end of game design. Experiment with coding first, and don't hesitate to reach out to communities online for tips!

Starting with a ROM hack or fan game can be pretty challenging for a beginner! It might be more beneficial to first create a simple standalone game to get a feel for programming. Try searching online for resources on how to get into ROM hacking; you'll find plenty of guidance there.
