Should I Upgrade to RTX 3060 or Wait for RTX 5060?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my computer since I'm currently using a GTX 1050 Ti with a B460M DS3H motherboard and an i5 10400F processor, along with a 550W PSU. I got all my parts new back in 2021. I'm debating between two options: either go for the RTX 3060 (or 5060) and possibly upgrade to an i7 10700KF within the next 2-3 months, or hold off until mid or end of 2026 when RAM prices might drop and invest in a new build with the RTX 5060 as the GPU. What do you all think?

I'd suggest considering the 3060. It comes with 12GB of VRAM, which is fantastic for playing modern games on high settings. Plus, if you're focusing on Nvidia, the 3060 is a solid choice since the 40 series might be overkill for your current setup. Just remember to upgrade your PSU to at least 800W to support the new graphics card!

Thanks for the advice! How does the 3060 compare with the 5060 in terms of future-proofing?

If you want to save up and go for something like the 9060XT 16GB, that could be a smarter long-term investment. It outperforms both the 3060 and 5060 in the right conditions! Just make sure it won’t bottleneck with your i5 10400F.

That's interesting! Do you think the 9060XT will match well with my current CPU?

You definitely don't want to go with a graphics card that only has 8GB of VRAM for future gaming. The 3060 has 12GB, which is better for longevity. Additionally, if you're looking at newer options, you might consider the RTX 4060 Ti or 5060 Ti with 16GB for more power down the line. Even looking at used 3080s could give you a better deal!

Honestly, waiting until 2026 can be risky. No one knows how GPU prices will fluctuate, and they might actually rise instead of drop. It might be more beneficial to upgrade to the 3060 now and enjoy better performance right away.
