I lent my USB flash drive to a friend so he could install Windows on his new laptop. Instead of using the Media Creation Tool, he used Rufus, and now my USB is stuck. I can't format it, add files, or delete anything; I keep getting a "disk is write protected" message. Do I need to download Rufus again to fix this? What are my options to format it properly?

Hey, don't sweat it! Using Rufus doesn't ruin your flash drive. Check your disk management; you might just need to delete the existing partitions and create new ones. Rufus can be useful, but it doesn't write protect your drive. If everything fails, try booting from a live Linux distro and wipe it clean from there.
Honestly, Rufus is solid! It’s a great tool for working with drives. From what you've described, it's unlikely that format issues are Rufus's fault. Try checking if the drive shows up in Disk Management; you may just need to format it directly from there. If that doesn’t work, consider using Disk Utility for the formatting.
Chill out, man! USB drives are cheap and pretty easy to fix. Have you checked Disk Management? Right-click on your USB drive and see if you can format it there. If it's not working in Windows, the Diskpart command in an admin command prompt could do the trick.
I don’t get what the big deal is with tools like Rufus. The Media Creation Tool has its problems too! If your USB is really stuck, try cleaning it up using Diskpart or just delete the partitions and reformat. It's usually not as bad as it seems.
