What CPU Should I Upgrade To From an Intel i5-10400F?

I'm currently using an Intel Core i5-10400F CPU running at 2.90GHz, but I've been noticing it's become pretty slow, especially with the types of games I love to play. I'm a college student working part-time, so I'm hoping to just upgrade my CPU without needing to replace my whole motherboard. I'm not really experienced with upgrading PC components, so I'm unsure if I should stick to a specific brand. The manufacturer of my PC made their own motherboard, and I'm trying to figure out how to check its compatibility. Any advice or recommendations on what CPU I should consider would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if you're looking to get a significant upgrade, you might want to consider a different motherboard along with a CPU like the i5-12600KF. It'll give you much better performance compared to just sticking with your original setup, and it's not too expensive when you look at the newer options.

How hard is it to upgrade the motherboard? I’m worried I might break something. Would I need to swap out any other components as well?

If you want to stick with your current motherboard, you should look at the i7-10700K, 10850K, or 10900K. They're great upgrades and you can often find them used. Just keep in mind, you might need a better cooler to handle the increased performance.
