Is It Safe to Keep My Laptop Plugged In All the Time?

I have an ASUS TUF laptop, which is not top-of-the-line for gaming, but it performs well since it's a relatively new model from 2022/2023. I'm wondering if it's okay to keep my laptop plugged in even when it's fully charged. I typically use it for about 3-6 hours a day, and I've heard that this model has a limit for charging cycles; after 1000 charges, the battery could degrade. I'm often faced with whether to unplug it while I'm away for a bit or to leave it charging, especially since it needs to stay plugged in to function. I know modern laptops have features to prevent overheating and overcharging, but I'm still concerned that keeping it plugged in all the time could harm the battery.

It's definitely safe to use your laptop plugged in all the time. Those old worries about overcharging don't really apply anymore. However, make sure to monitor the heat, especially if you're playing demanding games. If it gets hot, you might want to unplug it for a bit.

Your laptop should be just fine if you leave it plugged in. Modern laptops stop charging when they hit 100%, so they run directly off the power source instead of the battery. If you're gaming, just keep an eye on the heat; if it gets too warm, take a break to let it cool down.

Most modern laptops have smart charging systems that prevent damage from overcharging. It's better to avoid letting the battery drain completely, though. If you're really worried about longevity, consider setting a max charge limit to around 80% if your model supports it.

You don't need to worry too much about keeping it charged all the time. Just ensure it doesn't get too hot. A little extra care can also help—like not letting it drain to 0% often. If you're concerned, some ASUS models let you set the battery charge to stop at 80%.

From my experience, keeping your laptop plugged in all the time is generally fine. That said, the heat is the real enemy. As long as your laptop has good ventilation and doesn’t overheat, you should have no issues.
