I'm facing a bit of a tech dilemma. While using my MacBook Air, it went idle for about an hour, and when I came back to log in, the keyboard stopped working - the only key that functions is the D key. I tried a hard restart with the shift/control/option keys, but that didn't help. So, I went and got a new MacBook. I set it up using my iPhone, but now I need to transfer data from my old Mac. I connected the two with a cable, but since I can't log into my old one, is it still possible to transfer the data? I could go to the Genius Bar, but I was hoping for a quicker solution. If nothing else, can they transfer my data and fix the old Mac too?

Check if anything might have spilled on the keyboard. If there was a spill, repair might be needed before you can retrieve any data.
If you don't have a Time Machine backup or if your SSD isn't removable, you will likely need to get it repaired enough to use Migration Assistant to transfer data onto the new Mac.
Got it, that makes sense. I have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow. Just hoping this doesn’t set me back at work too much!
Have you tried connecting an external keyboard? Sometimes, it can help if the built-in one isn’t working.
No, unfortunately, that didn't work either. My trackpad and external mouse are functioning, though.

I don’t think so. The only thing I can think of is a surprise shock when I touched it after moving around, but that's happened many times without issues.
