Hey everyone! I'm considering buying an extra set of 2x16GB DDR4 RAM, specifically a 3200MHz kit, before prices adjust further. I currently have a Ryzen 3900x with 32GB of RAM and I've recently started doing some video editing for my YouTube channel, which the 32GB has been handling just fine. I'm also thinking of running Olama locally at some point. I do play Counter-Strike 2, but I'm not gaming a ton right now.
Here's the RAM I currently have: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) - BLS2K16G4D32AESB, with timings of 16-18-18 and CL 16. It's a bit quirky, and I couldn't overclock it reliably.
If I buy another kit, would mixing in a 3600MHz or 4000MHz kit cause issues since it would downclock to match the existing setup? And what do you think would be a reasonable price to pay for a kit like this, considering the market for DDR4 is adjusting? I'm debating whether I need to rush into this purchase since I don't need the additional RAM right now.

Yeah, just to clarify, if you buy a higher speed RAM kit, it will downclock to work with your existing setup. No worries there. But if you’re seeing prices you like, such as €200 for a new 2x16GB kit, that might be a decent buy, especially if your work will benefit from it. Just do your research on pricing in your area!
I wouldn’t stress about getting a new kit if you don't absolutely need it right now. DDR4 is on the decline, and prices are pretty stable, so it’s unlikely to spike. Also, if you add a new kit to your existing one, it will downclock to match the lowest speed, so there's really no point in overpaying for a higher speed kit since it’ll just run at 3200MHz. Keep an eye on prices, and aim for around €159 for a 32GB 3200 CL16 kit if you do decide to buy one.
Honestly, unless you really need that RAM for something crucial, hold off for now. 32GB is sufficient for most tasks, including video editing. Buying anything higher right now just to keep it on hand might not be the best move, especially if DDR4 is becoming outdated. Look around, as I found a used 2x32GB kit for €170 recently, which seems reasonable.
