I just got the ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus motherboard and I'm excited to install my Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD that comes with its own heatsink. The motherboard hasn't arrived yet, but while reviewing the manual, I noticed it has a top heatsink for the M.2 slots. I'm pretty sure I can't use that top heatsink alongside my SSD's built-in heatsink. My question is, will the setup work if I just don't use the motherboard's heatsink and go with my SSD's heatsink instead? I've never dealt with a motherboard that has a top-mounted heatsink before, as all my previous SSDs had their own.

You can definitely use your SSD's heatsink on its own; the motherboard's heatsink can be removed. When I built my setup, I did the same thing with this model. Most motherboards with heatsinks allow for this kind of flexibility.
That is what I was hoping. I can live with just using my SSD's heatsink. Thanks!
