Is It Worth It to Buy 16GB DDR5 RAM Now?

I'm in a bit of a bind here. My PC build was initially budgeted at $1450, but prices have hiked it up to around $1600 thanks to skyrocketing RAM costs. I'm considering whether to just buy 16GB of DDR5 RAM now and then upgrade to 32GB later when prices hopefully drop. What do you all think?

If you're a serious gamer, you might regret not grabbing 32GB. Most modern games can be pretty taxing, especially at higher settings, and multitasking will be limited with just 16GB. Prices might not drop anytime soon, so if you can swing it, 32GB might be the smarter choice.

If you can find a good deal on 32GB, go for it. But if you're limited to 16GB, make sure to consider if a 1x16GB or 2x8GB setup is better for you. I've heard that upgrading from 2x8GB to 4x8GB later can cause issues, while a single 1x16GB stick might not perform as well as dual-channel configurations.

Honestly, I believe RAM prices will eventually drop. History shows that it happens with tech products like GPUs and CPUs; it just takes time. Production will ramp up to meet demand, so prices should come down, but it’s hard to predict exactly when.

True, production may ramp up, but that's often to the industry's benefit more than consumers. Focus seems to be shifting to AI technology.

Yeah, but it might take a while. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

It really depends on what you do with your PC. I have 32GB, but honestly, I usually max out around 12GB in typical use (like casual gaming and browsing). If you’re not a heavy user, 16GB should serve you fine for now.
