Am I Bottlenecking My GPU with My Current Setup?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up an RTX 3050 6 GB graphics card, but I'm really disappointed with its performance. I can barely hit 30 fps in newer games like BF2042, which feels way off from what I was expecting. Even when I lower settings, I don't see much improvement.

Right now, I'm using an i5 7600k, which I knew wouldn't be the best match, but I thought I'd at least get close to 60 fps on lower settings. Am I just being unrealistic about my expectations, or is there something more going on with my setup? Just to clarify, I'm gaming at 1080p, not 4k or anything crazy like that.

It’s hard to put an exact number on bottlenecks, but pairing the 3050 with an i5 7600k isn't ideal, especially since the 3050 isn’t a powerhouse. You might see a slight performance boost if you upgrade to a used 7700K or even something newer like a 13400, but with the 3050, the difference might not be profound. Keep in mind, BF2042 is particularly demanding on CPUs with more than four cores, so that could be part of your issue. I’d recommend saving for a Ryzen 5600 or a 13400 with a new motherboard instead!

Great response! The CPU really seems like the main issue here.
