Best Upgrades for My Girlfriend’s PC?

I'm looking for some advice on how to upgrade my girlfriend's PC for Christmas. Her setup includes an Asus ROG Strix B450-F AM4 motherboard and a Ryzen 7 2700x CPU. She's currently using a Gigabyte 1080 with 8GB of memory. I was considering upgrading her graphics card since it seems like a straightforward option, but I started to wonder if upgrading the CPU would yield better performance instead. What do you all think I should focus on? I would love your suggestions, especially since my budget is around $500.

I’d suggest sticking with AMD for now. Upgrading to a Ryzen 5800XT will give you great performance for an AM4 CPU. For graphics cards, depending on your budget, a mid-range like the 5060 Ti or something higher like a 5070 XT could be a good pick. Just ensure it fits in her case and her power supply can handle it.

It might be beneficial to upgrade both, but it really depends on your budget and the types of games she plays. Typically, a better GPU could give her a larger performance boost for gaming, but a CPU upgrade can also be helpful depending on the situation. Just keep in mind that her current motherboard puts some limits on options.

If you’re thinking of going big, then an AM5 upgrade would be great but might stretch your budget too far with DDR5 prices. Staying with her current AM4 might save some cash. Balancing between a decent graphics card and a CPU upgrade within $500 is tricky but totally doable.

You should consider looking at a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU along with a newer GPU like the GTX 5060. This would be a solid upgrade all around. If you're in the UK, that combo should come up around £500 and should handle most games quite well.
