I'm looking to upgrade my 3070 for better performance at 1440p gaming. I've heard that the 9000 series graphics cards are a better investment according to MSRP, but I can't find the 9070 or 9070xt near me for anything close to that price. I did find the Gigabyte Windforce 5070 OC model for about $750 CAD, which is roughly MSRP here in Canada. Given that performance differences aren't huge between these cards, is the 5070 a smart choice?

The big downside of the 5070 is that it's only a 12GB card. Anything under 16GB priced over $500 might not give you the best bang for your buck.
Since I'm in Canada too, I've actually been considering the 7800xt over the 5070 due to its higher VRAM. I saw some open box 9070s for around $800, which seems like a better deal than the 5070 at $750.
I was thinking the same, but I use my PC for rendering and I feel Nvidia has an advantage over AMD right now. I'm torn between sticking with the 5070 or waiting for the 5070ti to drop in price.
