Best Way to Expand My RAM: Should I Match Speed and Capacity?

I built a PC and loaded it up with 128GB of RAM, but I've found that it's getting maxed out when I run multiple Adobe applications alongside over 100 Chrome tabs. Rather than changing my habits, I'd like to just upgrade my RAM.

I have an MSI Creator X299 motherboard with four RAM slots filled with Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 128GB 2666MHz (4x32GB). Unfortunately, I can't find the same RAM on the market anymore. My options are:

- A new 128GB kit with different speed and brand, or
- 64GB (4x16GB) of the same brand and specs, just lower capacity.

I'm wondering if I should prioritize getting RAM that matches the current specs, even if it means a lower capacity, or if it's better to grab more overall RAM, even if it means mixing different brands and speeds. Additionally, if I do mix RAM, what's the best way to configure it across the four channels on my motherboard? Should I follow an A-B-A-B pattern or an A-A-B-B pattern, considering match capacity and speed? I've been searching for good advice on this but haven't found clear answers. Thanks!

If you're looking to max out your RAM, definitely go for the 4x32GB option instead of the 4x16GB. Even if the new RAM sticks have a different speed, you’ll benefit from having more RAM overall. Balancing the channels is essential, so put one old stick and one new stick in each channel. This keeps everything running smoothly.

Thanks for the guidance! I really appreciate the tip about balancing the sticks in each channel.
