I'm currently trying to decide between two ASUS motherboards for my 9800X3D build, specifically for gaming purposes. The options I'm considering are the ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI and the ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI. The B850 model is priced at €180 and features WiFi 7 with a longer 60-day return window, while the B650E-F is priced at €190 and offers two extra rear USB ports along with improved build quality and VRM. Can anyone provide recommendations or clarify the differences between these two boards?

I'd personally go with the B850, but it really depends on your needs. If USB ports are a priority for you, then the B650E-F is the better choice since it has more. It ultimately comes down to what features you value more in your setup.

You should look closely at the WiFi and Ethernet specs as well as the PCIe configurations. If your setup involves multiple GPUs or high-end PCIe 5 devices, the B850 might offer better performance due to its newer tech. However, if it’s just a single GPU, the basic board should do just fine. Not sure if there's a need for a high-end board unless you're pushing the limits with your components.

I have the B650E-F with a 9800X3D, and I can't recommend it enough! Here's a quick breakdown of the differences:

**What the B650E-F has going for it:**
1. The PCI-E 4.0 x16 slot remains usable even with all M.2 slots occupied, while the B850 disables it when using slot 3.
2. An Intel ethernet controller instead of Realtek—that means better performance!
3. It has two additional USB ports and overall better build quality and VRM thermals.

**What the B850 offers:**
1. WiFi 7 as opposed to WiFi 6e.
2. A more established audio codec for those with external audio setups.

Considering these, I'd say the extra €10 for the B650E-F is worth it if you don't mind skipping out on WiFi 7.
