What GPU upgrade can I make for better gaming performance?

I built my PC back in 2019 with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 32 GB of DDR4 3600MHz RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, and an ASUSTek Prime X470-Pro motherboard. It still runs decently, but I'm starting to struggle with newer games. I've already upgraded the RAM and SSD, but I'm not looking for a complete overhaul—just something that can improve my FPS and keep me gaming a bit longer. Can anyone recommend a newer GPU that would work with my current setup?

It really depends on your power supply, so check that first. Also, I'm curious—why are you looking to only upgrade the GPU?

If you want better FPS mainly for competitive games, you might want to think about a CPU upgrade too. But if you're strictly after a GPU, let us know your budget!

I'm not too into competitive gaming, but a boost would be nice for casual play. My budget is around $300-$400.
