Help! My PC Can’t Connect to the Internet After a Power Outage

After experiencing a brief power outage, my PC hasn't been able to connect to the internet. I use a direct Ethernet connection, so I'm not on WiFi. I know my router is working fine because all my other devices are connected without issues. Furthermore, when I tried to connect my phone to the PC using a USB cable for data, it wouldn't connect either. I thought the problem might be with the network drivers, but uninstalling them didn't solve anything. I also tried flushing the DNS and restarting both the router and my PC, but I'm still facing issues. The Windows troubleshooter mentioned it can't read the DNS, and I'm seriously out of ideas for what to do next.

First things first, do you have your PC connected to a good surge protector or UPS? Power changes can sometimes fry components, and it’s always worth checking if you’ve got a solid line of defense against surges. If you’re not using an uninterruptible power supply, it might be time to invest in one, especially for a setup like yours.

I totally agree! A lot of people think just any power strip is a surge protector, but you need a quality one to really protect your gear.

I do have a surge protector, but I haven't invested in a UPS powerful enough for my PC yet.

I had a similar experience with my PC! The new drivers can sometimes cause more problems than they solve. I rolled back to the previous driver version and managed to regain connectivity, but it did cause some overall lag. You might want to try that if you haven’t yet!

Which driver are you using? I even uninstalled my network drivers and rebooted, but no improvement.

It sounds like you’ve tried a lot already! Just to clarify, have you plugged the same Ethernet cable into another device like a laptop? That can help confirm if it’s strictly a PC issue or if there’s something else going on with the network itself.

I just tested the Ethernet cable on my mom's laptop, and it works fine!
