My Monitor Is Black But I Can See the Cursor, Help!

Hey everyone! I'm having an issue with my PC. I turned it on today, everything looked good, and after entering my password, the screen went black but I can still see the cursor. I tried methods I found online like booting into safe mode, but nothing has worked. I even contacted Microsoft support, and they suggested a forced shutdown, which I did. Now my monitor just says 'signal not detected.' I checked all the cables, and they seem to be in the right place. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'm not sure if this is related to anything hardware-wise. Here's a link to a picture of the inside of my PC case: https://files.fm/u/pqz3awqwe4. Any suggestions?

It sounds frustrating! First, let's check the cables. Make sure your monitor cable is plugged into the correct port on the graphics card and not just the motherboard. If that’s good, try pressing `Ctrl` + `Shift` + `Esc` to open Task Manager. If that works, you can create a new task and type `explorer.exe` to see if it brings back your desktop.

Yeah, also, make sure the monitor itself is set to the right input source. It might be looking for a different connection that’s not active.

Before getting too deep, did you notice any crashing or Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) before this happened? If not, that’s good. Maybe it’s a driver issue. You might want to boot into safe mode again and see if you can update your graphics drivers from there. Just make sure you can actually get to that point first.

I didn’t see any crashes or BSOD before, but the monitor did lose signal for a few seconds every few days, which was weird. Now it’s just not showing anything.
