I have 32 GB of DDR4 3600 MHz RAM from my gaming laptop that just died. I'm considering building a new PC and I'm wondering if I can use this laptop RAM with an adapter instead of buying new memory sticks. Has anyone tried this before? What are the potential stability issues or other concerns I should be aware of? I'm looking at options like this adapter I found online.

Unfortunately, the CPU options you’re looking at require DDR5 RAM. The adapter you mentioned would only let you convert from SODIMM (laptop RAM) to DIMM (desktop RAM), but it doesn't change the RAM type. You need a CPU that specifically supports DDR4 instead, like something from the AM4 family.

Do you have any CPU recommendations that won’t cause throttling? Also, is it worth trying this setup, or should I just bite the bullet and get DDR5 RAM, even though it's pricey?
