What should I upgrade first for better 1080p gaming performance?

I'm currently using an RTX 3060 12GB with a Ryzen 7 5700X and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I mostly play FPS games, along with several Soulslike and other single-player titles. I want better performance at 1080p with high settings and have no plans to move to 1440p or 4K. Would upgrading the GPU, CPU, or RAM give me the biggest improvement?

For a graphics upgrade at 1080p, a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB would be a sensible step up without being excessive. A 9070 XT or similar high-end card is more suited to 1440p or 4K and could be held back in some 1080p games by the 5700X.

For a CPU-focused upgrade on the AM4 platform, a Ryzen 7 5800X3D—or the usually better-value 5700X3D—would be a strong choice. The extra cache can noticeably improve frame rates and 1% lows in many games.
