Should I wait for the 5080 Super or buy a 5080 or 9070 XT now?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from a 2080 Ti, and I've heard that the 5070 and 5080 might come out with Super versions soon. However, I also came across the AMD 9070 XT and I'm wondering how it compares to the 5080. Is there a chance AMD will release an even better card soon? I'm not in a rush since my current setup runs fine, but by the end of 2026, I want a better GPU for gaming and perhaps local AI tasks. Here's my setup: Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and an 850W PSU. Is that sufficient? I also have two 1440p monitors, but only use one for gaming. Additionally, I have a DARK BASE PRO 900 Black rev. 2 case—will it fit newer GPUs? Lastly, should I consider upgrading my motherboard and CPU too, or can I hold off for a couple more years? Any guidance on whether I should wait for the new GPUs or look for Christmas deals would be appreciated!

If you're okay with a little setup work, the 9070 XT offers solid value. Prices are likely to increase due to the supply issues, so getting something now might save you money. Your current hardware is capable for the next couple of years without needing immediate upgrades. Just remember that evolving tech like AI workloads might find better support in the NVIDIA lineup if that's a priority; still, for now, go for the 9070 XT!

Yeah, I made the jump to the 9070 XT myself, and I'm really happy with it. It's a solid card for most uses!

If you're truly not in a rush, you could wait a bit, but the Super cards might take longer than expected. I wouldn't be surprised if they get delayed or even cancelled. If you plan to get something by 2026, getting a regular 5080 or 9070 XT now seems like a smart option. Just be aware GPU stock always sells out fast!

Honestly, I'd recommend going for the 9070 XT now. The Super cards are probably delayed, and the RAM shortages are complicating things, so you're not guaranteed better options anytime soon. The 9070 XT is great for 1440p gaming, and your setup should handle it just fine. Your 850W PSU is sufficient, and the size will fit in your case without issues. As for the CPU and motherboard, your 5900X is still strong, so there's no rush on that front either. Maybe think about upgrading in a few years when better options are out.

I agree with you, it's better to buy now and enjoy gaming rather than wait for something that might not even arrive soon.

Jumping from a 2080 to a 9070 XT was a great choice for me—easy recommendation. Given your interest in AI tasks, you might find the NVIDIA options to serve you better eventually, but for gaming right now, the 9070 XT ticks all the boxes. Don't wait for the uncertain upcoming releases.
