Hey everyone! I'm looking for advice on whether I should stick with my current AM4 setup or upgrade temporarily. Here's my setup: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, AMD Radeon RX5700XT GPU, B550M-plus AM4 motherboard, 16GB DDR4 3200 RAM, and a Seasonic Focus GX-650 PSU. I've recently purchased an RX 9070XT GPU and a 1000W PSU. I also want to upgrade to an AM5 motherboard, an AM5 CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, but those prices are currently sky-high. Given that it might take months (or even years) for prices to stabilize, would it be better to upgrade my AM4 CPU for now? If yes, what models would you recommend?

I just went through a similar upgrade path from AM4 to AM5. In the UK, prices are coming down a bit; my new AM5 setup wasn’t as painful as I thought. You might find similar luck depending on your location! But honestly, if DDR5 and CPUs are still sky-high where you live, an AM4 upgrade makes total sense for the time being.
Also worth considering your gaming habits. What games do you play? If they’re CPU-intensive, an upgrade might help a lot. But if you're mostly playing less demanding games, you might not see huge benefits.
If you're looking to get the most out of that new GPU, definitely consider upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X3D! They’ll be a significant improvement over the 3600. DDR5 prices are outrageous right now, so sticking with AM4 might be the best move for now until things settle down.
As for longevity, I’d say stick with AM4 for now, especially if you can get a good offer on a 5700X. It should hold you over for a couple of years until the AM5 platform becomes more affordable.
I agree with Mike! The 5700X is a solid choice and still available at reasonable prices, unlike the X3D models which have gotten quite rare. If you can snag one, it’ll really boost your gaming performance without breaking the bank.
