I recently installed a new SSD for my brother's laptop, but when I tried to boot it up, it displayed a "no bootable device" error. I'm a bit confused about how to get an operating system onto this new SSD. Can I boot from a USB drive to install an OS on the SSD? I would really appreciate a step-by-step guide on how to do this. If you're replacing an old drive, you might consider cloning the old drive to the SSD, but make sure it’s the same size or larger. However, if you're not familiar with this process, I suggest just installing Windows fresh instead.
There’s a ton of guides online and on YouTube about installing Windows. If you’re struggling to find the right information, just search for "install Windows 11" on Google, and you should find plenty of step-by-step instructions!
To install Windows on the new SSD, you’ll want to start by downloading Windows 11 from the Microsoft website. Use their Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive. Once that's done, plug the USB into the laptop, access the BIOS settings, and change the boot order to prioritize the USB. After you boot from the USB, follow the prompts to install Windows, making sure to select the new SSD as the installation target.
If you’re not attached to Windows, I recommend trying out Ubuntu instead. It's user-friendly and great for most tasks without needing Windows.
