Should I Upgrade My Ryzen CPU or Get a New Motherboard?

I currently have an MSI B350M Gaming Pro motherboard with a Ryzen 1600. I'm looking to upgrade because I need compatibility with Windows 11. I'm considering two options: getting just a Ryzen 5500 for around $70 or purchasing a combo deal that includes a Ryzen 5500 and an AsRock B450M/AC R2.0 motherboard for about $116. I know the Ryzen 5600 is a better option, but it costs around $130. What do you all think?

If you update the BIOS on your B350, you should be good to go with most Ryzen 5000 CPUs! What’s your budget and how do you mainly use your computer? Is it just for web browsing, or do you game on it occasionally?

It's mainly a family PC with some casual gaming. I also have an old Seasonic S12 II 520 power supply that's been running for 8 years. Should I be thinking about upgrading that too?

If you're on a tight budget, sticking with just the Ryzen 5500 is a solid choice. What do you mainly use your PC for? That detail could help others offer better suggestions.

I mentioned it earlier, but it's mostly just for family use and some casual gaming.

The AsRock B450 motherboard only has WiFi 5 compared to your current MSI B350, so unless you need the built-in WiFi, I’d stick with your current setup and just get the Ryzen 5500. It’ll save you some cash!

I have a WiFi 6E card, so I guess the new motherboard isn't necessary for me!

Just get the Ryzen 5500 and remember to do a BIOS update on your motherboard after installation. That should do the trick!

Honestly, go for the Ryzen 5600 if you can swing the extra $20. It’s significantly better and worth it in terms of performance. The 5500 is decent, but the 5600 offers about 20-30% improvement in gaming. You might regret not spending a little more if you opt for the 5500.

Where do you see the 5600 for $90? That's a steal!
