Help Choosing Between Two ATX PSUs for a Build

I'm putting together a build for a friend as a late Christmas gift since their Corsair 850 PSU has unexpectedly failed twice, even after a replacement. I'm replacing several components including the GPU, motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, and of course, the PSU. I'm particularly looking for a white ATX PSU rated at 1000W to provide some extra headroom, even though that's a bit more than they need.

So far, I'm considering two options: the Asus ROG Strix 1000P Gaming and the SeaSonic Focus GX V4. I noticed both appear to be around A tier in PSU rankings, though the SeaSonic has an A- rating due to its "high inrush current and needed tuning for OCP." I want to steer clear of Corsair PSUs for this build specifically. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on these models or any recommendations you might have. Price isn't a huge concern—I just want to get them something nice and reliable!

Seasonic is the way to go! Their units are designed to last and provide consistent performance, which sounds like what you need after your friend's experience. My only hesitation with the SeaSonic is the potential inrush current—it might trip breakers if it’s too high. Just a tidbit to consider!

I’d definitely lean toward the Platinum rated PSU. The Strix 1000P is built on a Seasonic design, so it should deliver top-notch performance. There is a new technology called the 'Patented-Intelligent Voltage Stabilizer' that the Strix has, which sounds ambitious. I understand your concern about new tech in PSUs—sometimes they can cause issues. The Asus has a solid A-tier rating, while the white version of the PSU you're considering seems to lack feedback, but they might perform similarly.

I’ve had some pretty good experiences with the Corsair RM850 series, so I'm surprised to hear they've failed twice. Might be worth looking into whether there's something wrong with the power supply in their home, like a bad outlet. As for the options you're considering, the SeaSonic Focus GX V4 has been noted to have a mediocre transient response, which could be a dealbreaker for a high-performance build. Since you're getting a 1000W PSU, I'd suggest checking out the Asus ROG Strix—it sounds like the better choice, especially considering it's well-rated in most reviews.
