Help with Dual Monitor Setup – Second Monitor Not Working

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor configuration for my home office using my company laptop alongside my personal PC. I recently purchased a KVM switch to easily switch between the two systems while using the same peripherals. However, after adding a second monitor to my setup, I'm facing a 'no signal' issue on the new monitor. I've already attempted chaining the monitors together with an HDMI cable and an RGB adapter, but both monitors only seem to work when connected separately. I also connected the second monitor through an HDMI to USB adapter into the KVM switch, but that hasn't produced any results, and I suspect that particular adapter may be faulty. The monitors are returning 'no signal' whenever they're connected as a secondary screen. I'm wondering whether I should try a different cable, like a DP to RGB, or if the HDMI to USB option should even work like this. If anyone has advice or if you need more details, let me know!

It sounds like you've got a bit of a wiring puzzle going on! The HDMI to USB isn't typically used for video, so that might be causing part of the issue. If your KVM switch only has one HDMI output, the second monitor might not be recognized because of the way your current setup is configured. Try connecting directly to the PC or switch to a DP output if possible. Your Lenovo should support it, and that might solve your problem. Keep in mind that not every adapter works for video output, so perhaps look into a DP to HDMI instead of the USB option.

Thanks for the advice! I'll look for a DP to HDMI cable and see if that works. The USB adapter wasn't clear to me either, so I appreciate the insight!

You might want to double-check the resolution settings on your laptop as well. Sometimes when adding a second monitor, the laptop may try to set a resolution that the second monitor doesn't support. Also, ensure you're using the correct display mode. Pressing Windows + P can toggle through different display settings, which might help in getting it recognized properly. Good luck!

I didn't think about the resolution settings! I'll definitely check that out and see if adjusting it makes a difference. Thanks!
