Why can’t I update my iPad after installing iPadOS 26?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my iPad since I updated to iPadOS 26. I can no longer update it directly; instead, I have to download the IPSW file and use my computer to install updates. This problem persists even after erasing my iPad and setting it up as new. Is there anyone else experiencing this issue? It's an A16 model and quite annoying!

It sounds like a frustrating situation! If you bought your iPad after late September from Apple or an authorized reseller, it likely already had iPadOS 26 installed. Sometimes the wireless updates can fail due to various reasons, leading you to do it through a computer. Just to clarify, did you need to update to 26.0.1, 26.1, and 26.2 using your computer too?

I faced a similar issue when I updated my iPad to iPadOS 26. Restoring it fixed the problem for me, but I still had to manually load newer updates through my computer. It's definitely a pain when updates don’t go smoothly.
