Can My Landlord Legally Monitor My WiFi Activity?

I'm renting an apartment where the WiFi is included in the rental deal. My landlord mentioned that he would be monitoring my internet activities regularly to ensure that I don't use it for illegal purposes. I don't engage in anything illegal, but I still feel uneasy about him checking my network history. If I start using a VPN like ProtonVPN, will he still be able to see my online activities when I'm connected?

Honestly, it sounds like your landlord is overstepping. You might want to check your lease for any clauses about privacy and internet use. If he is illegally monitoring your activities, it could be a legal issue. You could consult local tenant laws about this too!

Absolutely, if it’s not mentioned in the lease, he might be on shaky legal ground. It's worth looking into.

Use a VPN! Just ensure it's set up properly to tunnel your DNS requests too. However, be cautious because he might notice you're using one and could get suspicious. It’s also possible he could try to limit your access if he finds out. You should be prepared for that!

Yeah, it’s best to be ready for potential pushback. Also, just remember that some services might still track you based on your login credentials.

From a legal standpoint, your landlord does have some responsibility for what's done on his internet connection, but monitoring your activity is a bit extreme unless stated in your lease. If he threatens eviction over VPN use, consult a lawyer about your rights. It's important to protect your privacy!

For sure, knowing your rights is crucial here. I’d definitely get legal advice if it escalates!

If your landlord knows what he's doing, he might be able to see that you're connecting to a VPN, but he won't be able to see what you're actually doing through it since that connection is encrypted. So yes, a VPN will help keep your activities private!

Exactly! The VPN itself might be detectable, but everything you do while connected will be hidden. That's the beauty of using a VPN.

Honestly, if I were you, I'd consider getting your own internet. It's less hassle and you wouldn't have to worry about your landlord snooping on you. Plus, you can manage your connection the way you want!

Totally agree! Having your own setup would eliminate all these worries.
