I'm trying to help my mom out with her older Sharp Aquos TV, which she uses with a JBL soundbar connected via optical cable through her TDS cable box. I recently got her a Roku Express for streaming Netflix and HBO, but I'm at a loss because there's no sound when we try to use the Roku. I can only see a 'standard' audio setting on the TV and can't figure out how to get the soundbar to work with the Roku. I've even tried connecting the optical cable directly to the TV, but that doesn't produce sound for the cable or the Roku. I really need some assistance on how to get the sound to work!

Make sure to check the audio settings in the Roku menu. Sometimes it may be set to stereo, and you need to adjust that to get it to work seamlessly with your soundbar.
Roku uses HDMI for both audio and video, so you might need an HDMI audio extractor like the one I found online. Basically, you'll connect an HDMI from the Roku to the extractor, then HDMI from the TDS box to the TV, and finally, another HDMI from the extractor to the TV. This way, you can still use the optical connection for the soundbar if you want. It’ll help separate the audio for better compatibility.
