Need Help Fixing My Mom’s Laptop After a Factory Reset Disaster

I attempted to factory reset my mother's 3-year-old HP laptop, but during the process, she accidentally powered it off, which corrupted the Windows installation. Now, I'm stuck with an endless error message. I tried booting from a Windows 11 installation USB, and in my confusion, I clicked on 'install Windows 11' instead of 'repair this PC.' Knowing that I shouldn't power it off again, I let the installation run its course. Now, it's asking for a network driver, and I have a feeling all other drivers are gone too. Given I'm not very tech-savvy, I'm wondering if it's worth the time and effort to fix this laptop, which was already having issues like not running without being plugged in. If anyone can guide me or share a comprehensive fix, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance—I'm really worried I've messed it up worse!

I'd advise creating an ISO with the media creation tool and using Rufus to make a bootable USB. After that, delete all partitions on the hard drive to do a clean install. Rufus should help bypass the network and hardware requirements. Also, it sounds like the laptop needs a new battery; you can find affordable replacements on Amazon.

You may need a wired internet connection for the install process to get the Wi-Fi drivers. Also, HP usually provides a downloadable Windows installer that includes all necessary drivers for their laptops.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the HP site for the installer.

Yeah, definitely look for that, it could save you a lot of trouble!

You're probably going to need the .inf file for the Wi-Fi card that matches your HP model. Once you get that file installed, you can use the HP Support Assistant to grab any other missing drivers without too much hassle.
